Bruno Varoli, an Italian immigrant, founded the company in 1961 as Mediterranean Woollen Mills (Pty) Ltd.   Situated in Hammarsdale, KZN, it changed its name to Mediterranean Textile Mills (Pty) Ltd in 1994 as the business evolved from a 100% woollen plant into a diversified vertically integrated mill - spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing man-made, synthetic and natural fibers.

In 2001 a large portion of the mill was modernised enabling us to produce AGOA compliant fabrics for the US market.  In 2007, responding to market-demand, we began the production of knitted fabrics.  Our penetration into the knit market increased in 2010 when we extended our range to include blank, off-the-shelf garments for supply into the promotional and corporate market.

Being responsive to ever-changing trends and international trading conditions has ensured our survival for nearly half a century.  In 2011 we celebrate our 50^th Anniversary.
